Make Everything OK

Yesterday I spent 5 hours getting home from Brussels to Delft, while being sick, today I am still sick and, on top of all, my car got stolen. Our beautiful, gorgeous, dearly treasured en much loved Lola was taken from us yesterday and I am still shocked and in disbelief that after only 3 months of getting to ride her, we no longer can look outside our window and see her shine. It's devastating. Even this magic button does not help at the moment.

Flak - Diptych

This week I went to see dansensemble Flak from Canada. Their new show Diptych is so beautifull, with lovely music by Bach for the piano and cello. I was entranced by the sound and the movements of these incredible dansers. Definitely a recommendation!!

Lightbulb recycled

I came across the site of Theetante San and found this supercool idea for recycling old lightbulbs. I have to try this! It's probably a bit delicate, but for indoors really a great idea. Thank you San!

Peter Pauper

I just bought this exquisite little journal at the bookstore, because I needed (well, wanted, but 'wanting' equals 'needing') a notebook for my new job I'm starting this thursday. It's printed by Peter Pauper Press and I am so thrilled that they sell it in Dutch bookstores too, because I absolutely love the nice prints! The one above was already one of my favourites (the colour is a bit different in real life though, more greenish than purple), it's called Twilight Garden. I also love the Foldover Journals with the magnetic flap. I'd love to have the Butterflies or Floral Birds theme!

I bought a similar notebook a couple years back. This one, to be precise, printed by Paper Blanks. They also have really nice stuff, but less cute and more keltish and leather, like really old books. (I do love old books!)

Vogelbon

On saturday my niece got married. A beautiful wedding! Because they also just bought a new house in Amsterdam, I got them a gift I found one time in a magazine. I loved it! It's called De Vogelbon and what it is, is a gift-certificate for a hand-painted real-sized bird anywhere in your house. The birds you can see on the website are adorable, Petra is a truly gifted artist. I so hope someone will give me the same present when we buy our first house!

Birdies

Thank you Grietjekarwietje for the pattern for these supercute little birds! I absolutely love them and after making the first I couldn't stop myself to make two more. I'm so glad I started crochet, there are millions of things you can make with it, but the stuffed animals are definitely at the top of my list for things I love to make.

iPad Sleeve

It's finished! Finally! I've had my iPad for some time now and I decided I wanted to make my own sleeve instead of buying one. However, it took me some time, first to decide on color, then on pattern, then on lining. But this is how it turned out! A blue acryllic knit with felt lining. Now I can take it with me without getting scratches on!

New bag!

I bought this bag at Pikula. Love it!! In my last post I said I was going for the black silk clutch, but then I saw this one and it is a perfect colourfull summer wanna-have so I just had to have it!

I also found these adorable little gift-books. They are small books that fit in a matchbox, so therefore: Matchboox. I haven't got one yet, perfect gift though.

I found this short film online. It's by PES, they make more of these. I like!

The things I come across

Love love love love love these cookies! Could I make them myself like this you think? Probably not as pretty, but it's worth to give it a try sometimes! You could also order them at Better Bit Of Butter. Awesome!

Fine Little Day has a giveaway. Pikula has donated a bag. I totally loved it at first sight and decided to check out her shop. More got-to-haves! Especially the one in the photo. If I don't win the giveaway I'm going to order this one. If I do win I may also order it :)

Totally want one of these! Check out Ottomania.

Sanex has a special promotion. Check the website. If you become a fan (for free!) Sanex will pay for a months worth of clean water for one person in Gambia. No strings attached! It's a Dutch website but I think anyone can join in using Hyves, Twitter or Facebook.

Also check out Flavourites for tips of the best webshops. You can also have them send you an email newsletter every now and then.

Another cool Dutch website I found is Alles Voor Niks. Free products and samples. Worth checking out every once in a while.

Vase Corsets - The Light Blue Cotton Series

I've been working on these and now have several dressed small vases in my home. They're really cute! The flowers are daisies, so you can guess the size. The thread is a 100% pure cotton, in a light denim-color. I love the texture of it! I'm thinking about selling these, but they are a lot of work to make, so I'll first have to figure out an easier (and quicker!) way to create them, to keep them affordable. Please let me know if you're interested! I now have several on supply.

Shape Maker

I came across this pretty toy again today in the newspaper. I've watched this short movie before, it's really cool! So I wanted to share it with those of you who haven't seen it before. I owned something alike when I was little, it was called Serpentino. I've been thinking about making something like this myself some day, but maybe I should save myself the trouble and this buy this one, it's so nice and simple but still superbly made!

Atheistic Angel

I love this little naughty angel by Mia Hamborg! She has some other cool things too, like the A4 shelf and the Parat cupboards. Maybe I can convince my boyfriend to work some carpentry into his free time (or try my hand at it myself ofcourse!).

Ameland

This weekend we went to a beachvolleybal-tournament on Ameland, one of the Wadden-islands. I'd never been there before and it was absolutely beautifull. Our camping-spot had an excellent view over the heather-fields. We've even seen some seals on our boat-ride back to the mainland! Very very nice. I'll be back next year, definitely!

Photoshop Fun

Just having some fun in Photoshop after making the pictures of Rauls brand new knitted hat. Inspiration for this comes from Fine Little Day, where faces are drawn on, well, anything!

Hat for Raul

It's finally finished! A cool new hat for a cool little guy. My colleague Menno got his 4th (!!) son recently. I decided I wanted to make the little one some head-gear (because even in summer it can get really cold with the wind and rain in the Netherlands). Congratulations Menno and Liane! Hopefully this hat will actually stay on (contrary to the socks) ;)

Photo Festival Naarden

This weekend we went to the Photo Festival Naarden. I really want to advertise a bit for this festival, because both the town of Naarden as the festival itself really deserve it. FFN is a sort of open air museum, wich exhibits photographs of both famous and less known photographers. The theme this year is 'Let's face it' and is all about portraits. There's a lot of exceptionally beautiful, intriguing and inspirational material. I'd like to point out some of my favourites:

Martin Roemers 'Eyes of War' ; Koos Breukel ; Joost van den Broek ; Stephan vanfleteren, his portraits are incredibly strong ; Marie Cécile Thijs 'Cooks', her website also shows other impressive stuff ; Mike Roelofs 'Resilience' has powerfull images of the Roma ; Caren Huygelen's 'Master of Science' is very nice and recognisable, me being a former TU Delft student!

Also the work of former students from the Photoacademie shown in Galerie de Lage Flank has some highlights, of which I unfortunately do not remember the names.

The Photo Festival is open 'till the 19th of June, so Dutchies and photography-lovers, you still have a chance to go and see some of our most gifted artists at work!

The Dopper

I was out with a friend of mine, when she pulled one of these out of her bag. I loved it immediately! I always have a plastic bottle of water with me. Those bottles get dirty or they break and then you have to buy a new one. Expensive and bad for the environment. This is a hard plastic bottle, can be washed in the dishwasher and is, obviously, re-usable. Also, of every Dopper sold, a percentage goes to Simavi, that promotes clean drinking water in poor countries. I definitely want one! And, of course, the thing was designed by a TU Delft industrial designer.

See the Dopper website in Dutch or in English.

Chrysanthemum

One of the flowers broke off of its stem when I put them in a vase. I put it in a whineglass with a bit of water to see if it would still bloom, and it did!

I really like this picture, with the heavy grain and the color of the flower against the sober background.

Beautiful beautiful roses I got from Joost's parents. Starting out as big balls of red satin on a green stem, they blossomed into huge burgundy red flowers about 15 centimeters in diameter. Amazing!

Photo Club Assignment 2

I am always too shy to push my camera in someones face. Therefore I miss a lot of great shots when it comes to beautiful, interesting or quirky people. So the assignment this time: People!

Photo Club

Since I bought my very first dSLR camera (a Pentax K-x) and I really have not used it enough yet, me and Joost started our own private little photo-club. As he is the pro of the two of us, he gets to be the teacher. First assignment was just to get into the business of assignments.

Photo Club Part 1 - Wilhelmina Park, Delft

First post!

Wow, I actually made it. I've started a blog! I've been thinking about it for so long now, it's nice to see it finally taking shape. It's something I do often; having an idea, thinking it over and over and over some more, before finally being able to do something with it. My new motto in life: Less doubting, more doing! Now that my life is slowly but steadily taking shape, it's time to get some things out of my system. I need to start taking action sooner, so that if it doesn't work out, I'll be able to stop thinking about it earlier and get on with the next thing. This blog will report all of this! From inspiration, to first thought, to idea, to execution and then either to continuation and success, or to a sudden halt. I'll be posting things I come across that I like, things I do and things I feel passionate about. It'll be crafts, photography, products, and sometimes also a little bit of my personal life. Let's start!
